Green finance advances both development and climate goals. Developing countries are hardest hit by the effects of climate change and so the need to fund a green transition is even more pressing there. But at 6% of global finance, unlocking its potential requires a concerted push from policymakers, investors, businesses and consumers if it is to start generating serious impact.
It is at this time that HIVOS and SEED are launching an initiative that funds and supports green SMEs in developing countries and seeks to build up the ecosystem around them. A climate fund that provides grants, debt, and equity financing to enterprises that provide climate-smart products and services. The fund draws on existing finance from HIVOS, and will seek additional development and corporate funds.
This roundabout session will present the proposed structure of the fund with participants. It will be followed by an open brainstorm that seeks to improve the proposed model, challenge the proposed modalities and seek suggestio
