Why this session?
Social Innovations across the globe have significantly contributed to addressing old problems in newer ways, meeting the
unmet social needs and making the world a better place. Across Sub-Saharan Africa, phones now act as banks for millions
of Africans, who cannot even dream of opening a traditional bank account, technology led innovations in agriculture are
providing cutting edge solutions to farmers in Asia/ Africa, people can get their hearts examined in rural Cameroon using a
medical tablet, or get blood delivered by drones.
Though some innovations have been able to scale and reach masses, we have not been able to solve the problems
systemically. In rapidly changing and interconnected environment, problems are running faster than the solutions,
choosing individual value chains and combining them with selected technological solutions may not work.
There is also a increasing recognition/ ecosystem to support local innovations with better understanding of the context,
