Rapid population growth coupled with limited economic opportunities in rural developing markets has made rural youth unemployment a pressing challenge and a development priority. Concurrently, uncorrected poor vision is the world's largest disability affecting 1 in 3 people (2.5 billion people) primarily due to access to trained vision care professionals in rural areas. By providing skills training to create "vision entrepreneurs" who can generate a sustainable livelihood by providing vision care to their communities a unique solution can be found. Social enterprises and NGOs in these emerging markets have taken up the mantle of providing the relevant skills and expertise to launch them as entrepreneurs.
