How do you give non-financial support in a successful way? Participants will share technical approaches and personal struggles when working with their investees. How do you engage when the investors’ ambition overcomes the aspiration of the investee? How do you deal with different perspectives on the development or capacity needs of the business you invest in? An interactive workshop on how to best give (and receive) non financial support in the impact space.

Helping organisations grow at the Good Deed Education Fund, a 1.1 million euro fund founded by the new generation of Estonian entrepreneurs in 2018. For two years I was running the first social incubator in Estonia. Previous experience includes policy making in higher education, administering research projects, coordinating the establishment of a new international Masters programme and organising a number of TEDx events and summer schools amongst others. I hold a master's degree in Philosophy.
The National Lottery Community Fund has played a catalysing role in developing social investment in the UK; in 2010 we co-commissioned the first social impact bond (SIB), located in Peterborough, and since then have committed over £250m of National Lottery money to furthering social investment via support for organisational resilience, co-commissioning social impact bonds and the development of blended funding offers. Our aim is to enable people to take the lead and create more sustainable social impact through the use of social investment.
My role at TNL Community Fund is as policy lead for social investment, managing stakeholder relationships and developing how we use social investment in the future. I am also responsible for our UK wide strategy to support social sector organisations strengthen their organisational and financial resilience. Alastair is CEO of the School for Social Entrepreneurs and the founder of www.matchtrading.com He became a social entrepreneur when he joined SSE’s very first cohort in 1997, in Bethnal Green, London.
